Chimurenga music protégée, Kurai Makore, has given his fans a Christmas gift, releasing a scorcher single titled “Zvinonetsa” on the eve of the gem-packed holiday.
After successfully releasing another single Thombie mid-year, Kurai has shown great maturity in his latest rendition which sums up, real life challenges.
“Zvinonetsa” is an emotional song about real life issues surrounding work, money, love, leadership, relationships, building homes and little everything else.
All these things, sings Kurai, have traditionally been necessary problem. On second thoughts, these issues have always been problematic.
“Zvangogara zvinonetsa!”
Having learned from the best, the legendary Thomas Mapfumo, Kurai dishes the song in a calm, collected and composed but sombre voice, while his backing vocalists, add to the emotion.
Surely, Mukanya, should be greening with envy from his base in the United States of America .
What touches most is the intensity of the instrumentation of the song and the juxtaposition of Kurai’s voice and the backing vocals.
The beat is steadfast and excellent and in it comes a shifting tapestry of instruments, each complementing the other, to give the song its totality.
Chimurenga Music fans in their broad totality have started enjoying the song.
This writer played the song again and again, and again and again, again. It is addictive.
It is one of the songs you listen to for the first time and feel indebted to it; and feel to be part of it.
Suffice to say Kurai Makore has matured and really up to the game.
Wherever, he is, Thomas Mukanya Mapfumo, should be happy that he mentored a real artiste. Kurai is professional. His music is mature and grounded in traditional instruments.
There is no doubt that Chimurenga Music fans will find the song “Zvinonetsa” very interesting and enjoyable.
