DELTA Beverages marketing director Imirayi Muzorewa has expressed delight at the progress being made in the rehabilitation of Zimbabwe’s stadiums.

Speaking at the 2024 Soccer Stars Banquet in Harare on Friday, Muzorewa hailed the efforts of stakeholders, who are working to improve the country’s sports infrastructure.

“Every stakeholder must play their part in improving football in the country. I am encouraged that discussions are on for the rehabilitation of stadiums. A few weeks ago, l had a meeting with the ministry of local government and from the budget as well funds are being poured to the rehabilitation of the stadium so it is our hope that these plans come to fruition. “It is important that there is work on our stadia because there has been a sad scenario with our teams that qualified for continental football playing outside the country,” said Muzorewa.

Muzorewa’s comments come as several local stadiums are undergoing renovations to improve their facilities.

Rufaro Stadium, for example, is set to receive a major facelift, with the installation of new bucket seats and improved amenities. The stadium’s Western grandstand, including the VIP enclosure, will be fitted with 6,000 new seats, with a further 16,500 seats to be installed in the coming weeks.

Similarly, the National Sports Stadium (NSS) is also undergoing renovations, with the government allocating funds for the upgrade of the facility. The stadium, which has been dormant for several months, is expected to be ready for use by next year.

Muzorewa also took the opportunity to call for improved officiating in the league.

“The quality of officiating has been on the spotlight for some time now, and I hope that something will be done to improve it when the new Zifa leadership comes in,” he said.

Muzorewa’s comments reflect the company’s commitment to promoting and developing football in Zimbabwe.
