ARCHBISHOP Dr Veronica Kwati has been ordained as the first female vice president of the Apostolic Churches Council of Zimbabwe (ACCZ).

Her ordination will raise women’s voices in the apostolic sects and uplift them.

Speaking during Dr Kwati’s ordination in Harare, director in the office of the Minister of State for Harare Metropolitan Provincial Affairs and Devolution Mrs Caroline Kampila said churches should contribute to the development of the country.

“Our churches which were started in Zimbabwe know our culture and they pray for the nation,” she said.
“A lot of things in our country have transformed for the better as a result of prayers coming from churches. I am happy that ACCZ is operating in line with the National Development Strategy1 and the President’s mantra of leaving no one and no place behind.

“We are here to witness the ordination of Archbishop Dr Veronica Kwati as the first female vice president of ACCZ. We hope that this will go a long way in uplifting women in apostolic sects and those in the country at large,” said Mrs Kampila.

ACCZ president Dr Tobias Zunguzira said in apostolic sects, women were not allowed to take leadership positions and the ordination of Dr Kwati is a testament that women can lead.

“It will help in uplifting women and give them the respect that they need. The elevation of Dr Kwati will inspire women to go to church knowing that they are being represented at the highest level,” he said
Dr Kwati said no words could express her happiness.

“I will make sure that women’s voices are heard in the church. The most important thing for us as women is to uplift each other. We must teach each other the importance of prayers and we must not forget to pray for our country.”
