ZIFA presidential election aspirant Marshall Gore, who was defeated by Nqobile Magwizi for the top post, has emphasised the importance of starting preparations immediately for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, which will be crucial for the Warriors’ success.
Gore stressed that a well-organised preparation plan will be key to achieving better results in the upcoming tournament. The Nations Cup tournament will run from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026, in Morocco.
The Warriors, now under German coach Michael Nees, are set to return to the prestigious tournament after missing the previous edition held in Côte d’Ivoire due to a FIFA suspension.
In the draw held in Rabat, Morocco, the Warriors were placed in a group comprising South Africa, Angola, and Egypt.
Gore believes it’s a tough group, but he remains optimistic.
“The group is tough, but with meticulous preparations, we can achieve better results. It’s crucial to begin our preparations immediately. This includes organising competitive friendly matches and leveraging the World Cup qualifiers to refine and develop our playing style,” said Gore. He also wished the new president all the best in his new role.
“I extend my heartfelt congratulations to Nqobile Magwizi on his well-deserved victory. This marks a significant moment for Zimbabwean football, and I am committed to supporting the new administration in their efforts to advance the game.
“Together, we can work to realise the immense potential of our football for the benefit of all.”
“I want to express my sincere gratitude to everyone who supported my candidacy.
“To my campaign team, your dedication and belief in our shared vision were truly inspiring. To the stakeholders who engaged with our ideas and provided invaluable insights, your encouragement meant the world to me. While the outcome was not what we had hoped for, I remain deeply proud of the progress we have made in igniting important conversations about the future of Zimbabwean football,” Gore said.
Gore says he remains determined to contribute to the growth of football in the country.
“As we turn the page, I remain steadfast in my commitment to contributing to the growth and transformation of football in Zimbabwe. I look forward to collaborating with Mr. Magwizi and his team, as I firmly believe that unity and shared purpose are the keys to addressing the challenges and building a brighter future for our sport.”
“Thank you once again for your support, passion, and belief throughout this journey. Football has always been a unifying force in Zimbabwe, and I remain dedicated to ensuring it continues to inspire, empower, and bring pride to our nation.
“Sometimes, God’s answer is “No,’’ not to deny us, but to guide us toward something greater.”
