Harare City Council’s acting town clerk Phakhamile Mabhena Moyo has claimed that the local authority’s water is 100 percent safe to drink as it is tested every hour and adheres to World Health Organisation standards.
The city’s water has always come under scrutiny due to the discharging of raw sewage into Mukuvisi River, which flows into Lake Chivero, the city’s main water supply.
Speaking during a tour of the city’s water and sewer treatment plants yesterday, Eng Moyo said residents should be assured that Harare water is safe.
“If there is any problem with the water in the tap, it could be localised. The water that is coming from here (Morton Jaffray) is 100 percent compliant with the World Health Organisation standards,” he said.
“We have a laboratory to test our water every hour. We also engage the Standards Association of Zimbabwe for the verification of our results. I can assure everybody that water that comes out of Morton Jaffray Water Works is 100 percent safe for drinking.”
