Induction for PSL newboys

Zimpapers Sports Hub

PREMIER Soccer League clubs are set to congregate in Bulawayo tomorrow for a three-day pre-season workshop that is expected to set the tone for the 2025 campaign.

The indaba will bring together all the 18 teams that will participate in the league this season and will provide the platform for review of the previous campaign as well as discuss the housekeeping issues ahead of the eight-month marathon.

PSL spokesperson Kudzai Bare said they are expecting a full house in Bulawayo for the next two days.

“We are going to have our pre-season workshop; it’s starting on the 30th (tomorrow) and going up to Friday, and it’s going to be attended by all the PSL clubs, including the newly-promoted club.

“This is something that we have been doing for the past three to four years now that at the beginning of each season, we meet as the PSL clubs, we review the previous season, and we plan for the coming season,” said Bare.

“Some of the issues, aside from the review and the plans for the 2025 season, we are also going to look at key issues like sponsorship and marketing for the league.

“We are also going to touch on match officiating, governance, and leadership, which will be presented by Mr. Siwela. And we’re looking at doping prevention and education, which will be presented by Dr. Ndiweni; he is part of the PSL Sports Medicine Committee.

“Those are some of the main topics, as well as management of competitions, how clubs can organise and manage their own matches from event planning, things like that. So that’s basically what we’re going to touch on.”

The meeting will also be an induction to welcome new members that were promoted this year. The promoted teams include Kwekwe United, Scottland, and returnees Triangle.

It was not clear whether MWOS, who have entered into a partnership with ZPC Hwange to take up the Southern Region slot, will be attending. The deal is yet to get ZIFA blessings.

“It’s also an induction for the newly-promoted clubs so that they know and understand the operations of the PSL.

“I think it’s important that we are on the same page, and then we’ll be speaking the same language. And old clubs may know what’s required and what is not, but then just reviewing and planning is very critical.

“We see where we went wrong, and then we find ways in order to improve. I think that has worked well for us.” The Premier Soccer League is set to kick off in March after the top-flight body holds their ion’s Annual General Meeting. The fixtures were released on Monday, but the actual dates will be advised.

However, champions Simba Bhora and Chibuku Super Cup winners, Dynamos, will warm the stage when they feature in the Castle Challenge Cup at Rufaro on February 22.
