Man in court for raping daughter

Midlands Bureau

A 54-year-old man from Mberengwa has appeared in court for allegedly raping his eight-year-old daughter.

The man appeared before Zvishavane regional magistrate Mr Tavengwa Sangster facing one count of rape.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge and was remanded in custody to January 17 for trial continuation.

It is alleged that sometime in December last year, the complainant was at home with her father and four-year-old sister.

The court heard that when the victim and her sister retired to bed their father followed them and forced the complainant to sleep on his bed, while the young sister slept on a mat on the floor.

The accused allegedly raped his daughter and threatened her with death if she reported the matter.

The complainant, however, narrated her ordeal to a neighbour in the morning, leading to the father’s arrest.
