A Marondera farmer is counting his losses after four of his cattle were allegedly electrocuted when electricity cables fell on them during the night.
Police spokesperson for Mashonaland East Province, Inspector Simon Chazovachiyi confirmed the incident.
“On January 11, the farmer and his workers drove 20 cattle into a cattle pen that was built under power lines.
“At around midnight, four cattle were reportedly electrocuted after the electricity poles supporting the power lines collapsed.
“After hearing an unusual sound from the cattle pen, the farmer and his workers rushed to check, only to find four cattle lying lifeless.
“A report was made at ZRP Marondera rural and they attended the scene. The value of the cattle lost is US$1 600.”
Inspector Chazovachiyi appealed to farmers to avoid building structures or conducting farming activities within prohibited areas to avoid fatal incidents.
