Mashonaland West Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister Marian Chombo has commissioned three classroom blocks at Mhanyame Primary School that will improve the learning environment for at least 300 learners.
The three blocks of two classrooms each were constructed by the school’s development committee (SDC).
Learners hailed the development as key in reducing hot sitting and the number of learners in a classroom.
Minister Chombo said the construction of the classroom blocks demonstrated the effectiveness of collaborations.
“This amply demonstrates the effectiveness of the whole of Government and the whole of society approach in improving the lives of our people,” she said.
She hailed the school for adopting non-formal education in line with Heritage-Based Education known as Mhanyame College of Education.
The blocks have led to the reduction of learners in a class from 65 to 40 learners.
SDC chairperson Mr Justice Chimutove said the new blocks would help improve the school pass rate.
Provincial education director Mr Gabriel Mhuma said the school was doing well in infrastructure development.
Mhanyame Primary School had the highest number of learners who passed at Grade 7 in Makonde District.
The school’s traditional dance team came first during the National Traditional Dance Competitions in Matabeleland Province recently.
