Motorsport ready to thrill in 2025

THE roar of engines is soon to be heard again in Zimbabwe as the 2025 motorsport fraternity gears up for what promises to be an exciting year of competition.

From the high-octane thrills of motocross to the endurance challenges of enduro, there’s something for every motorsport enthusiast this season.

It’s going to be another blockbuster year of motorsport activities!

According to the calendar of events for 2025 that was released yesterday by Jamie Kerwin of Motorsport Zimbabwe, motocross fans should expect fierce battles on the dirt tracks at Donnybrook Park Raceway in Harare as riders push their limits in various classes.

The Zimbabwean Motocross Championship will see riders vying for top honours, with thrilling races and spectacular jumps.

The National Championship kicks off with the first of six rounds on February 9, followed by the other five rounds on March 30, May 4, June 15, July 20, and October 12.

The likes of Daiyaan “D” Manuel, Emmanuel Bako, Doug Mellor, Riley Rocher, Chris Mufanechiya, Judah and Mudiwa Sakupwanya, and Victor Nyamupfukudza will all be back in action on the track at Donnybrook.

The dates of the season-ending Zimbabwe Summer Series have been set at December 10, 12, and 14 at the home of motorsport in Zimbabwe — Donnybrook Park Raceway in Harare.

The Zimbabwe Summer Series — the jewel in the crown of Zimbabwean motorsport — attracts top international riders from all over the world, mainly those from Europe. In motor racing’s Main Circuit, it will witness a diverse range of racing disciplines, including circuit racing, sprint races, and even endurance events for both cars and bikes.

Teams and drivers will be vying for podium finishes and championship titles.

This discipline of racing is hosted in Bulawayo and Harare — BMC in Bulawayo and Sables in Harare — both venues hosting four events each through the year.

The season begins on March 2 in Harare at Donnybrook Park Raceway, followed by other race meetings on April 5 in Bulawayo, May 11 (Harare), June 28 (Bulawayo), July 27 (Harare), and September 6 (Bulawayo).

October 26 (Harare) and December 6 in Bulawayo. In the ever-popular sport of karting, young and aspiring racers will once again showcase their skills on the karting tracks.

 Karting in Zimbabwe is hosted by two clubs, Sables Karting Club at Donnybrook Park Raceway and The Kart Sport Club at the National Sports Stadium.

Karting provides a platform for future motorsport stars to hone their talents and compete for top honours.

The Rok Cup will be held on March 9, April 6, May 18, June 22, July 13, and August 31.

Sables race days are on March 16, April 13, June 1, July 6, August 3, Octo ber 5, and November 16.

 The clubs host fun days as well.

In enduro, adventure seekers will embrace the challenges of enduro racing, navigating demanding off-road courses and testing their endurance and navigational skills. The season starts on January 31-February 1 with the Marondera Enduro.

The other events are pencilled in for March 6-7 (Bindura Enduro), April 25-27 (Vic Falls Enduro), June 20-21 (Bulawayo Enduro), September 26-27 (Mutare Enduro), and November 21-22 (Arcadia Enduro).

Motorsport fans will also witness the spectacle of flat track racing, where riders push their limits on dirt ovals showcasing incredible skill and daring manoeuvres. Dates to follow.

In 4×4 racing, off-road enthusiasts will put their driving to the test in challenging 4×4 competitions, navigating obstacles and showcasing their vehicle modification skills. The dates to look forward to are January 26 (trail drive), March 22 (Nite Xtreme), April 5 (Husqvarna Mudrun), April 27 (Mudfest), and May 24–25. May Jamboree, June 22 Trail Drive, July 12 Junior Funday, September 21 Trail Drive, October 12 Bushpig, November 9 Trail Drive, and December 6 Xmas Run.

Kerwin said the touring bike scene will see a variety of motorcycles traveling the country, with riders pushing their limits for every corner and every straight and taking in the beautiful sights Zimbabwe has to offer on the May 2-4 Nyami Nyami Rally and October 17-19 Trout Rally.

There will also be vintage and classic morning meets. For classic car enthusiasts, the monthly Vintage and Classic Morning Meets are held on the third Sunday of each month at Halsteds Pomona from 10 am to 12 pm. This provides an opportunity to showcase their prized possessions and connect with fellow enthusiasts.

The 2025 motorsport season promises to be an action-packed year, offering thrilling competition, exciting events, and a celebration of motorsport in Zimbabwe, Kerwin said.
