The Chivi community received free basic first aid training under the Presidential Emergency Scheme on Saturday and hailed President Mnangagwa for providing them with crucial life-saving skills.
Discovery Ambulance Services is spearheading the Presidential Emergency Scheme.
It aligns with the Second Republic’s National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1) and Vision 2030.
The scheme addresses immediate health needs and also contributes to the long-term goals of national development and societal empowerment.
A vendor at Chivi Growth Point, Mrs Muwani Bepera, took part in the training and said the programme empowers the community to save lives in case of emergency situations.
“We are grateful to President Mnangagwa because we can now save lives,” she said.
“Many artisanal miners here encounter different emergencies but we had no idea how to save them. After receiving this training, fewer lives will be lost now.”
Another community leader, Mrs Chido Musvetu said first aid is a basic right to every citizen as it saves lives.
“I used to work at Shabani Mine and witnessed too many occasions where first aid skills were helpful in various emergencies,” she said.
“By paving the way for such trainings, President Mnangagwa has shown that he is a leader with the people’s interests at heart.”
Discovery Ambulance Services chief executive officer, Mr David Munowenyu said the training in Chivi was successful.
“We had a record number of participants in Chivi, well over 300. We also realised that people from neighbouring districts travelled to attend the courses. We had people coming from as far as Mutare to Chivi. I want to assure everyone that we will reach every corner of the country. As President Mnangagwa always say, we are leaving no one and no place behind.”
Hundreds of people also received free medical check-ups for blood pressure and sugar diabetes during the training programme.
Chivi’s popular duo of Mai Pesanai and Chief Hwenje’s dancers provided entertainment at the event, while DJ Masomere was the event director.
