Seasoned rhumba artist Pitshou Lumiere believes that local musicians and promoters can achieve more success through unity, hard work and consistency.
As he approaches his 47th birthday on January 28, Pitshou has great plans for 2025.
In his 2025 resolutions, the Diamond Musica leader who has received rave reviews for his duet “Motema” featuring Jah Signal emphasised the importance of collaboration.
“Over the years I have spent here in Zimbabwe, I have developed a strong bond with the locals because we treat each other like family. I have collaborated with notable artists like Sulumani Chimbetu and Jah Signal. I also have an upcoming project titled ‘Pete Pete’ featuring Miss Daisy, a local artist with a beautiful voice,” he stated.
As one of the most consistent rhumba artists in Zimbabwe, Pitshou is committed to reviving rhumba and restoring its appeal.
“Unfortunately, we lack promoters,” he said.
“Rhumba music still has a dedicated following, and this year we are planning massive shows once I secure a professional manager.
“I will resume live performances at the end of January, sharing the stage with Jah Signal. I will be supported by Shaka Zulu and other members of the Diamond Musica band who are based in South Africa.”
Pitshou, who last performed in South Africa at the Durban Music Jazz Festival in 2001, feels ready for the challenge.
“I have always wanted to perform for a highly appreciative crowd, and we never disappoint. I will leave early to ensure that I can rehearse with my band,” he added.
One of his major plans for the year is to expand his poultry business in Zimbabwe and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
“I have been running a poultry and hatchery project because l can’t rely on music alone. l learnt this during the Covid-19 lockdown and now l am an entrepreneur-cum-musician,” he said.
“It pains me to see artists struggling financially despite having entertained so many people with their music.”
