‘Social media daydreaming’

THERE is no vacancy as President Mnangagwa’s term still subsists after he was voted overwhelmingly by millions of Zimbabweans in harmonised elections held in August last year, Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister, Dr Jenfan Muswere, has said.

In a statement last night, Dr Muswere said the President has introduced transformative policies and initiatives aimed at fostering sustainable growth, enhancing productivity and creating job opportunities for the people

It is against this background that the ruling Zanu PF’s 21st National People’s Conference is being held under the theme, “Mechanise, Modernise and Grow the Economy towards Vision 2030.”

Dr Muswere said Zanu PF National Chairperson and Minister of Defence, Cde Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri, has spelt out the agenda, theme and focus of the conference.

The conference is not elective.

“His Excellency President Emmerson Mnangagwa was democratically elected by millions of Zimbabweans in 2023 and his term of office is still running. The same applies in terms of his democratic election as President and the First Secretary of Zanu PF,” he                                                                            said.

“So, effectively there is no vacancy and the Government and the Party leadership is properly constituted in terms of the constitutions.

“There is unity, love, comradeship and harmony in the Presidium and Government. Thus, there is no discord in the cockpit and at the present moment the Government is seized with ensuring the betterment of the people and rallying behind the President as he spearheads and shepherds the nation towards an upper middle-income society.” Dr Muswere said the Government remains unfazed by “overzealous misdirected energies of half-wits on social media” who wish to sow seeds of division.

“There is no room for theatrics and manufacturing of fiction through imaginary mandates and those bent on misinforming the people shall be dealt with in terms of the law.

“The Government’s resolve, assertiveness, dedication and commitment to the people of Zimbabwe is total,” he said.

On the back of President Mnangagwa’s game-changing policies, Zimbabwe is on its way to becoming an empowered upper middle-income economy by 2030.

Dr Muswere said Government has prioritised infrastructure development, investment in key sectors and the empowerment of local businesses.

“Through initiatives such as the National Development Strategy, we are laying the groundwork for robust economic expansion, improved living standards and increased resilience in our economy, poverty alleviation and economic empowerment,” he said.

Some of the initiatives include the Pfumvudza/Intwasa programme, the Presidential Poultry Scheme and Presidential Borehole Drilling programme which has seen the setting up of village business units that have improved nutrition and incomes for the people.

Roads, dams, clinics and schools have also been constructed.

Asked as to whether he was aware of claims that there were divisions in the party, Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi said: “I hear them from you, the media. We actually sit down and laugh and say ‘can you see what they are writing about us when we are together?’ So we are aware that the media people always want to create  fictitious divisions that are not there. As you can see we are Zanu PF, we are going to our Politburo meeting, marking the start of the conference  and you see all of us there, chatting jovially, but when you see us chatting jovially you insinuate that they were fighting.  I don’t know where that comes from, But we expect it. That’s the democratic rights that we were  given to speak but we think that you must lie to a certain extent, not cause alarm and despondency.”
