Two suspected criminals who were part of a gang that recently stole R158 160 and US$9 339 from a gaming outlet have been arrested in Bulawayo.
The stolen money had just been collected by one of the outlet’s employees and was en-route to Harare.
National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said, “The suspects, Nkiwane Nomzamo aged 42 and Taurai Alfred aged 43 were arrested in Nkulumane, Bulawayo, in connection with a case of robbery in which R158 160 and US$9 339 was stolen in Bulawayo’s central business district on January 14.
“The robbery occurred just after the complainant had collected the money from a gaming outlet in Bulawayo and was en route to the company’s headquarters in Harare.
“On January 20, detectives from CID Homicide Bulawayo received information which linked the suspects to the robbery incident.”
The detectives acted on the information, leading to the arrest of the suspects and the recovery of R3 600 and US$40.
Investigations established that Taurai Alfred who was once a security guard at the gaming company’s Harare headquarters provided information and masterminded the robbery.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police implores companies and individuals to be safety conscious and to avoid moving with large sums of money. The police applaud the public for supplying valuable information which led to the arrest of the suspects.
“The public should feel free to report any criminal activities on the National Complaints Desk Number (0242) 703631 or WhatsApp 0712 800 197,” Commissioner Nyathi said.
