ZANU PF will continue creating an enabling environment for sustainable and inclusive economic development through enunciating and implementing robust policies aimed at consolidating already attained gains in line with Vision 2030.

In an interview, Zanu PF Secretary for Economic Affairs, Lieutenant-General (Rtd) Engelbert Rugeje, said the advent of the Second Republic ushered a new vision for Zimbabwe of becoming a prosperous and empowered upper middle-income society by 2030.

The Zanu PF Government’s development trajectory is guided by the National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1 2021-2025), a development plan that embraces political, economic, and social spheres towards sustainable development of “leaving no one and no place behind”.

“As we celebrate the many success stories and milestones achieved by the Second Republic across all sectors of our economy, across the breadth and length of our country, Zanu PF remains fully aware of the need to jealously safeguard the prevailing macroeconomic stability at all costs,” said Cde Rugeje.

He said through Government, Zanu PF would thus continue to implement astute monetary, fiscal and structural policies which seek to strike a balance between macroeconomic stability, increased infrastructure development, a favourable investment climate and improved livelihoods for the ordinary workers and citizens.

“Our resilience on the economic front remains unmatched within Sub-Saharan Africa and the Southern African region. “The resoluteness of President Mnangagwa’s administration has stood the test of time, including surviving both internal and external shocks that negatively impinged on the speedy attainment of Vision 2030.

“The Second Republic remains resolute even after surviving the debilitating impact of the wrath of illegal economic sanctions, external shocks, such as climate change and climate variability, the global economic recession, and the El Nino-induced drought, among others,” Cde Rugeje said.

The country’s economy is expected to recover and grow by six percent in 2025, catalysed by a rebound in agriculture and ongoing capital projects in the manufacturing sector.

Agriculture is expected to recover due to improved rainfall and grow by 26,6 percent in 2025 from a contraction of 21,2 percent in 2024.

The successful hosting of the 44th Ordinary SADC Summit of Heads of State and Government had regional admiration due to its uniqueness and dedication towards expanding the regional development trajectory in promotion of innovation and unlocking opportunities that facilitated the attainment of the region’s sustainable development goals anchored on industrialisation, he said.

Cde Rugeje said the Zanu PF Government had strengthened the governance framework for the Mutapa Investment Fund in line with its laid down mandate.

International engagement and re-engagement had remained critical through the party and Government efforts to attract foreign direct investment into the country as well as diaspora remittances, he added.

The party’s Department of Economic Affairs has been mandated to chair the Economic Development and Empowerment Standing Committee of the Central Committee as well as to formulate economic strategies for co-ordinated socio-economic development in Zimbabwe.

The department is collaborating and liaising with relevant Government institutions and stakeholders involved in the economic sector to strategically reposition the party’s policies towards the country’s general economic development agenda.

Cde Rugeje said Zimbabwe’s economy had moved from recovery to a sustained growth trajectory thus creating fertile ground for the inevitable realisation of Vision 2030.

He said the resilience of the economy was a clear testimony of the visionary and astute leadership of President Mnangagwa characterised by potent economic policies and interventions that continued to change the fortunes of the economy amid adversity.
