THE back-to-school rush has started with parents, students and teachers in the final phase of preparations for the first term, which gets underway next week.
It was a hive of activity in Harare’s Central Business District yesterday as scores of parents were buying the necessary school materials for the new academic year.
It has set the tone for what will be a very busy week where a lot of focus will be on the final preparations for the reopening of schools.
Vendors and small-to-medium enterprises (SMEs) have already started to enjoy brisk business from the sale of uniforms and stationery.
“As you know, back to school is upon us, we have come to buy stationery and new uniforms for the children,” said Priscilla Zisengwe.
“We did not lose focus when others were busy merry-making because we knew back to school was coming so we had to make a budget for this.
“As parents, we should make life easier for our children by making sure they have everything they need for the term.
“We are happy because all the school materials are available and we are buying at a reasonable price.”
It is also time for brisk business as uniform and stationery traders cash in on the back-to-school fever.
“Parents are coming in their numbers, our business has had a good start,” stated a business owner, who operates along Chinhoyi Street.
According to the 2025 school calendar released by the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, the first term gets underway on Tuesday next week.
The first term will end on Thursday April 10.
The second term will start on Tuesday May 13 and end on Thursday August 7.
The third term will start on Tuesday September 9 and schools will close on Thursday December 1.
