THERE was drama at the Harare Civil Court when a man, who is accused of pouring hot tea on his wife’s private parts after he found text messages in her phone in which she was communicating with another man, charged and tried to attack his in-laws.
The chaos happened after the end of the court session. After the court session, Hills Jania was spotted dragging Rumbidzayi Maripoko.
Her family was outraged by Hills’ behaviour.
“You do not have any right to hold or talk to my daughter. It was not easy raising her just for you to burn her,” said Rumbidzayi’s mother.
The police later intervened amid the chaotic scenes. The fight started just as Hills Jania was apologising to his in-laws for assaulting his wife.
He allegedly poured hot tea on her privates before assaulting her after he found romantic text messages with her lover.
Hills found the text messages in which his wife Rumbidzayi was communicating with another man. Rumbidzayi was granted the protection order by magistrate Meenal Naratom.
“We have been married for 12 years and I am his second wife, but I never knew I was married to a monster,” Rumbidzayi said, while crying.
“Hills assaulted me, claiming that I was sleeping with my friend, whom I last saw a long time ago.
“He wanted to kill me because when he was assaulting me, he was shouting that I was supposed to die, calling me a prostitute.”
Rumbidzayi also claimed Hills tried to rape their three-year-old child, who is now traumatised and reeling from nightmares.
“He tried to rape our three-year-old child who is now traumatised and she is now having nightmares every day.
“Hills said I am not good in bed and his first wife, who stays in Chitungwiza, is the one who is good in bed.
“This marriage should end, I am no longer interested.
“After assaulting me, you want us to continue with this relationship?”
Hills did not deny the allegations but instead demonstrated in court how he had assaulted his wife. I did slap her but twice only, maybe it was jealousy,” he said.
“Rumbidzayi, I love you, and I do not want our relationship to end for the sake of our kids.
“I admit that after l assaulted her she started bleeding because she has a high fever.
“A lot of good and bad things happened but we should not choose this way of breaking our marriage.
“I do not mind being barred from going to her workplace but not at the residential premise that is where l stay.
“My apology for assaulting you but all l wanted to know why you entertain a man whilst you are married and l am aware that you went to Canada with this same man claiming you were at work.
“I never meant to hurt you.”
