PACEMAN Tendai Chatara quickly dealt the death blows to Eagles as Mountaineers completed a 309-run victory in their Logan Cup match at Harare Sports Club yesterday morning.
Overnight, Eagles were on 191 for five wickets, with Tony Munyonga on 16 and Ryan Kamwemba on 14, after they had been set 521 runs to win.
Kamwemba was quickly bowled by Chatara, without adding to his score, and the Mountaineers captain then had Munyonga, the one remaining specialist batter, caught by Timycen Maruma for 26.
The last two wickets fell quickly at the other end as Eagles were bowled out for 211, with the injured Travor Mutsamba unable to bat.
Chatara finished with five wickets for 40 runs, while Wellington Masakadza had two for 14.
At Takashinga Sports Club, the field was so unfit for play after a lot of rain that the match had to be abandoned as a draw with no action possible on the last two days.
This was particularly unfortunate for Tuskers, who had built up the dominant score of 557 for five wickets against Southern Rocks, and on a personal level for Tanunurwa Makoni and Luke Jongwe, who with not out on scores of 185 and 94 respectively.
They were both denied the chance of reaching significant landmarks. – Zimcricket
