COMEDIAN Robson Mabhuku, who is popularly known as Mupengo Roby, has addressed the fraud case in which he is being accused of duping a fellow content creator, Manass Chibanda, over the sale of a YouTube Channel.
Chibanda is claiming Mupengo sold him his YouTube Channel but he didn’t get full ownership of the channel after he had paid part of the money.
He reported the case under RRB 6304741 at Makoni Police Station.
Chibanda said he was supposed to pay US$300 for the channel through Mupengo’s brother, Isaac, who only collected US$200. After Isaac received the payment, Chibanda claimed he was blocked.
“He told me that he was selling a YouTube channel and we communicated via WhatsApp messages. We agreed that I meet his brother since he was in South Africa.
“The brother, who stays in Kadoma, anonzi Isaac.
“I was communicating with Isaac using text messages and calls and I then met the brother who gave me the rights to the channel. I gave him US$200 and promised to pay the remaining US$100 on January 26. However, later on, he then changed before I discovered that the channel passwords had changed.
“He then told me he would come and pay my money back. I was no longer able to communicate with him before they blocked me. He said he would give me back my money on January 29 but I later went on to report the case to the police. “The docket was opened for the two.”
However, Mupengo asked why he would sell his channel, which is worth US$3000 and generates US$500 per month, for US$300.
He blamed his brother for selling his channel without his knowledge.
“I have been in South Africa for the past six months and, before coming to South Africa, I left all my social media accounts under my brother’s care.
“I have not been posting on my pages for some time now. Ndakawana basa thinking that I was only staying for a short period of time but it happened kuti I had to work for the past six months.”
Added Mupengo: “It came as a surprise when I was contacted by friends saying my YouTube name has changed. I wasn’t aware of anything. I then asked what had happened and Isaac told me kuti aifunga kuti handichadzoke kuZimbabwe. “I told him kuti he should give me back my account and to be honest I don’t even know how he got it back.
“When the guy called me, I was honest with him that my brother amuvhara but he went on to tarnish my name.
“When he approached me, I wanted to pay him his money but the moment he posted my picture on social media saying bad things akandikanganisira zita rangu kuma brand andoshanda nawo,” he said.
