POLICE HONOUR FALLEN COPS

Arron Nyamayaro

POLICE officers observed a moment of silence yesterday, in memory of their late colleagues, at a church service held in Avondale.

Officer Commanding Harare province, Commissioner Maxwell Chikunguru, handed over groceries to families of the late police officers.

Comm Chikunguru, some senior officers, church leaders and members of the Christian Community Police Network took time to interact with orphans and widows of the fallen officers before distributing food.

Commissioner Chikunguru said the late officersโ€™ commitment to service remains their inspiration, not only as Harare Province, but the entire police family.

โ€œIt is, indeed, a joyous occasion that we gather here today as one loving family to commemorate and celebrate the love of the Almighty.

โ€œLet me quickly point out that it never gets monotonous or religious to gather in a manner such as this because every now and then there is always something good from the Lord worth appreciating.

โ€œSurely, this year we had mountains to climb and rivers to cross and hurdles to jump in different areas of our lives. Fortunately, by the Grace of God we made it through to this day, hence our triumph. Glory be unto God.โ€

He added:โ€œWe commemorate some of our late brave cadres of the police service, who served with patriotism and courage, but, however, passed during the year under review.

โ€œTo our members and officers, who are still in service, your contribution through maintenance of law and order to this special nation, is worth my special salute.

โ€œI also take this opportunity to reiterate the need for our vigilance as the police to ensure an accident and incident-free festive season, which implies safety, sanity and convenience for the citizenry.โ€

One of the police officers, Pan African Award winner and musician, Leonard Chibhamu, led the congregation in praise and worship. ZAOGA Church Reverend Bethrem Mutoko shared a sermon and blessed the families of the late officers.

Rev Mutoko urged police officers to put their faith in God.
