POLICE have recovered a herd of 16 cattle that was stolen on Wednesday at Ntunzi Farm in Chinhoyi.

Acting Mashonaland West provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Effort Chapoto, told H- Metro that on Tuesday, Wonder Ruvengo (40), who is son to the complainant Sostina Tapera (63), penned all the cattle in the kraal.

Chapoto said at around 4am the following day, Tapera woke up for her morning prayers and checked the cattle pen and discovered that it was empty.

She advised her son Ruvengo who then quickly made a report at Chinhoyi Rural Police Station.

“A team of police officers, together with a canine unit, tracked the spoor the whole day which led them to the Chitomborwizi farming area,” said Chapoto.

“While still tracking, the team received a tip-off that  the accused persons were herding cattle at Farm 184, Chitomborwizi.”

Chapoto said an ambush was made resulting in the arrest of Henry Nkomo (37) and the recovery of a herd of twelve cattle.

He said police also recovered four cattle, which belong to Kilford Tobayiwa, at the same farm.

“The cattle were stolen earlier this month and the case was under investigation under reference CR 75/01/25.

“The other two accused persons, Lovejoy Rwizi of Mtunzi Farm and Pardon Musina of Chitomborwizi, ran away,” said Chapoto.

He said the value of the stolen cattle is US$5700 and all the beasts were recovered. He said community involvement and police dedication yielded positive results in this case.
