THE remnants of Cyclone Chido, which has made landfall in Mozambique and Malawi, are set to provide more rainfall across Zimbabwe this week.

The Meteorological Services department (MSD) has confirmed that the remnants of Cyclone Chido are expected to bring significant rainfall to Zimbabwe, with projections indicating accumulations of up to 30 to 50mm in some regions.

Earlier on, weather forecasters warned that Tropical Cyclone Chido will affect multiple countries in Southern Africa, potentially impacting approximately 2.5 million people across Mozambique, Malawi and the Comoros.

MSD Head of Forecast, James Ngoma, said Cyclone Chido has since lost its intensity and downgraded to a tropical depression.

โ€œCyclone Chido made landfall in Northern Mozambique near Pemba and drifted southwards, by this morning (yesterday), it was in southern Malawi in that path, it was losing its strength as it traversed the northern parts of Mozambique.

โ€œIt is now weaker and is now a tropical depression which will give light showers in the eastern parts of Zimbabwe.

โ€œNorthern parts of Mashonaland East as well as Manicaland and parts of Mashonaland Central will receive few moderate downpours.

โ€œWe are also expecting Matabeleland North and South to have a lot of thunderstorms.โ€
