A GREAT Zimbabwe University student, who committed suicide on Wednesday after finding out that her boyfriend was a married man, has been described as a deeply religious God-fearing woman.
Lillian Rusike was just 22.
Her friend, Mitchell Gumbo, told H-Metro she was on attachment at Masvingo Rural District Council.
“Lillian was a Roman Catholic Church St Theresa Rujeko member and a student at the Great Zimbabwe University on attachment at Masvingo Rural District Council.
“Lillian was a very religious person and lived her life by the book, she was God-fearing and would participate in church activities and prayer programmes.
“She was a member muchoir yeMasvingo.
“She was present every Sunday ku church, she was in the praise and worship team.
“She was involved with this guy, Farai, and she really loved him so much.”
Mitchell added:
“Farai deflowered her and because of her religious beliefs he had to be her husband.
“This made her very attached to him and her life revolved around him
“This man promised her marriage and made plans to introduce him to his family and vice-versa.
“They had been together for almost a year and he never mentioned that he was married with two kids.
“Lillian was so much in love with this man and was excited about their future together as she was just waiting to finish school and they would get married.”
Then, things changed.
“Things took a sudden change when she found out that he was married.
“This went against everything she had stood for and l guess she thought her life was over.
“Her workmate told me Farai’s wife might have been the one who triggered this as she went to her workplace and even declared war.
“She is said to have not taken the news lightly.
“She confronted the guy but he told her he wants to make her his second wife.”
Mitchell sobbed as she narrated her friend’s death.
“I woke up to calls and WhatsApp status updates of her death.
“Ndakazotofona and l was told she committed suicide after she discovered that her boyfriend Farai was a married man.
“She was found by her aunt after azvisungirira and she didn’t even leave a note.
“I’m hurt and it’s really sad, she had a bright future ahead of her.”
A church service was held at her aunt’s house in Mucheke, where she grew up.
She was laid to rest at Mhandamabwe Business Centre in Chivhu.
