FOLLOWING a distinguished four-year tenure as captain of Mutare Sports Club (MSC) rugby team, Jones Dedza has announced his decision to relinquish his captaincy and leave the club with immediate effect.
Dedza will join Old Georgians Rugby Club in Harare, where he is expected to make a significant impact.
Since joining the club in 2016, Dedza has been an integral part of the team’s success, serving as vice-captain from 2018 to 2020, before assuming the captain’s role in 2020.
MSC coach, Armson Makumbe paid tribute to Dedza’s dedication, work ethic, and inspirational leadership.
“As a coach, I have had the privilege of witnessing Jones Dedza’s remarkable growth and development as a player and leader – from a talented 16-year-old to the exceptional athlete he is today,” said Makumbe.
“It was an absolute pleasure to work with him, and I was constantly impressed by his dedication, work ethic, and inspirational leadership. His tenure as captain was marked by an unwavering commitment to the team, and he will be deeply missed by his teammates and the entire MSC community,” he said.
The veteran MSC coach expressed confidence that Dedza will excel in his new endeavour.
“While we are saddened to see Jones leave, we are also excited to see him embark on new challenges and continue to thrive as a player. We have no doubt that he will make a significant impact at Old Georgians, and we wish him all the best,” said Makumbe, adding: “He will always be a part of the MSC family, and his legacy will continue to inspire and motivate the younger generation.”
In a statement, MSC bid farewell to their former captain: “As we say in Shona, ‘Once a Shumba, always a Shumba’ – once a lion, always a lion. Jones will forever be a lion of MSC, and we wish him all the best as he takes on new adventures. His dedication and inspiration have been a hallmark of his tenure, and he will be deeply missed by his teammates and the broader MSC community.
“The MSC community wishes to express its sincere gratitude to Jones Dedza for his outstanding service to the club. We wish Jones Dedza all the best in his future endeavours and thank him for his leadership, dedication, and commitment to MSC.”
