IN a unique blend of military pomp and tender joy of hearts singing love melodies in unison, Private Buoyant Sibanda of the Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) Headquarters 1 Infantry Brigade exchanged vows with his civilian bride, Angeline Mandikiyana, in a military wedding ceremony held at a lodge in Waterford, Bulawayo.
The ceremony began with a march from Waterford Shopping Centre, where a military bridal team escorted the couple into the holy matrimony, showcasing the disciplined spirit of the ZNA.
Guests were treated to a display of military drills and a poignant rendition of military traditions.
The couple, resplendent in their wedding attire, exchanged vows under a canopy of SKS bayonets (ark of arms) held aloft by fellow soldiers.
This unique tradition is significant, as SKS bayonets are used instead of swords to signify the weapon that non-commissioned officers like Private Sibanda will use for the rest of their careers.
The atmosphere was charged with a blend of military formality and warmth, as the coupleโs families, friends and fellow soldiers gathered to celebrate their union. Following the ceremony, a lavish reception was held, featuring traditional Zimbabwean dances, lively music and a sumptuous feast.
โIt was a day filled with love, pride and immense gratitude,โ said Mrs Sibanda, a family member.
โA wedding of a very young couple in such a special setting, surrounded by brothers and sisters-in-arms, is truly an unforgettable experience.โ
Fisani Dube, a resident of Waterford, described the wedding as โa celebration with a distinct charm that set it apart from traditional ceremonies.โ
He noted, โThe honour guard provided a striking visual spectacle, with synchronised movements, sharp salutes, and the echoing cadence of their boots creating a sense of awe and respect. The crisp military uniforms added a touch of elegance and formality to the occasion.โ
The military wedding incorporated time-honoured traditions, including the presentation of bayonets and the poignant playing of the band, paying tribute to the coupleโs service and the sacrifices made by those who have served before them.
Lieutenant-Colonel Mlalazi acted as the officiating officer and guest of honour, representing the army commander.
The SKS bayonets played a significant role in the ceremony, forming an ark guard that protected the couple and symbolised the countryโs assets. As the couple entered the venue, they walked under the ark of arms, signifying the importance of safeguarding their marriage and telling them to guard it jealously.
The ark guards also served as the bridal team, escorting the coupleโs cars as they marched from the Waterford Shopping Centre to the wedding venue.
The ceremony was a celebratory and meaningful event, with an added air of patriotism and discipline that made it a truly unforgettable experience. โ @nyeve14
