Unprintable insults, death threats: Man drags son to court

Danisa Masuku
A man from Njube suburb in Bulawayo has decided to engage the courts to put his wayward son in line for insulting him, referring to his mother’s private parts and for calling his aged mother “a smelly thing.”

Zoren Sibanda is troubled by his son Xolani Sibanda because most of the time he returns from a beer binge he hogs attention for the wrong reasons. He wakes his father up and peppers him with insults about his mother that even this paper cannot print.

“He shouts in a high-pitched voice that draws the attention of the neighbours,” Zoren said.

The distraught father claims his son is violent.

“He  always threatens to knife me and his mother. He says he will bury our bodies in the yard and no one will ever know. I am living in fear because my son has turned into a wild animal that is capable of anything,” He said, as he applied for a protection order against his errant son.

In an affidavit, he said: “I’m applying for a protection order against my son Xolani. I have suffered enough abuse at his hands. Whenever he comes from a boozy night out he wakes me up and insults me with my mother’s private parts… and calling my mother smelly. And he would say #$@@@%. When I try to reprimand him he gets angry and threatens to stab my wife, my mother and I. Therefore I’m living in fear because he might end up fulfilling his threats.”

The presiding magistrate Jeconia Prince Ncube granted Zoren a protection order. Xolani was prevented from insulting his father and issuing death threats at his parents and grandmother.
